1993 London Marathon

Here's the moment when it all starts to happen... when your acceptance letter arrives int the post! (click on the letter to read)

Then it was off to the Southbank to register and collect a bag with your number and a free box of pasta! ( I didn't actually eat this at the time - I kept it for many years in my kitchen cupboard as a momento... but I got humgry one night and then it was gone!

You receive regular magazines in the period "running up to" the big event, which include training schedules... I did actually use this and followed the "marathon surviver scheme" - after all my running pace is only about 8/10 minute miles at best (for a 5 mile run), so I was only aiming for a time between 4 hours 30 mins and 5 hours

No words needed to explain this envelope that arrived just before the big day!

Yes the BBC covered my finish :-)

and YES, it was all worth it.... I got my medal

I also achieved my target time, with a 4 hours 58 mins.... not bad if you take off the 10+ mins to get through the throngs at the start... and another 2 mins where I stopped to speak to my supporters by Big Ben (about 300m from the finish!)
